Keepin’ it Fresh: Food Revolution Week Re-Cap

Food RevolutionOn May 13, 2013 Capital M’s Jamie-Oliver-inspired organic-fest kicked off to bring together foodies all over the world. Few restaurants can wave the organic banner as credibly, or as enthusiastically, as Capital M. They’ve been seeking local, organic food since 1992 and remain a strong figure in a now burgeoning flock of organic/vegan/wholefoods cafes and restaurants across the city. Now, paying homage to food warrior Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution Day, they are dedicating an entire week to all things organic.

In spirit of Jamie’ Oliver’s Food revolution Day, our employees decided to get creative and host a cooking demo for some of our guests. While the food prepared was not quite organic, we did cover important tips of how to eat healthy while you are on the go. Everyone can relate that when you are traveling, it is SO much easier to go out to eat or order take out, but what happened to that healthy kick you’ve been keeping up lately?  Check out our Traveling Nutrition Tips below and tap into the cooking gallery to see what it’s like to cook with Synergy!

Traveling Nutrition Tips: Smart Travel Reminders

  1. Don’t skip meals! Aim to eat roughly every 3 hours.Pre-Demo 5
  2. Stay hydrated. Drink .5-1.0 oz. per pound of body weight per day. This is especially important with air travel. Aim to drink about 8 ounces of fluid every hour on the plane.
  3. Bring bars. Granola and protein bars are great for snacks and pre- and post-workout nutrition.
  4. Include lean protein at each meal. Choose foods like grilled chicken, fish, and pork (white meat), beef, beans, and legumes. Opt for sandwiches made with turkey, ham, or roast beef.
  5. Eat healthy carbohydrates. Add a baked potato (be careful of toppings), brown rice, whole wheat pasta and bread, beans/legumes, etc.
  6. Add color. Include fresh fruit or vegetable at every meal.\
  7. Search for healthy foods. You can build a great sandwich or salad and find trail mix, nuts, bars, and water at any kiosk or airport store.

Sample Meals and Snacks

  • Turkey Breast and avocado sandwich on whole wheat bread with veggies like tomato, cucumber, lettuce, and sprouts, and onions. Hold the mayo to save 100 or more calories.
  • Whole wheat pasta with marinara sauce, grilled chicken, and a side of vegetable. No whole wheat pasta? Swap extra veggies for half of the regular pasta.
  • A piece of fresh fruit (wash it with water) and nuts – half or whole pack, depending on size.

Build a Super Smoothie

  1. Start with 5-10 cubes of ice.

Vivacious San Diego: Become Apart of the Energy at ERC!

SDBuilt over numerous canyons and mesas, San Diego has become one of the great thriving cities of America. Nearly 3 million people have the pleasure of calling this urban getaway home, as it ranks third in size in California, after Los Angeles and San Francisco. With 70 miles of stunning beaches, major seaports, a world class zoo and aquarium, and one of the largest U.S. naval bases, San Diego’s charm stems from its eclectic mix of features to enhance any individual’s style of living. As if there isn’t enough activities to do within the many areas of San Diego, the Worldwide Mobility ERC event has taken roots this May 15th, bringing a strong and effective workforce mobility program to the west coast.

Who and What is the Worldwide ERC?

The Worldwide ERC was established in 1964 representing the authority on global workforce mobility. Headquartered in Washington D.C, it’s current membership includes more than 12,000 professionals who are involved in managing or servicing a mobile workforce. When global workforce mobility professionals, business communities, and media want to learn about current issues, trends, and best practices for the movement of employees all over the world,  the Worldwide ERC has positioned itself to be the best resource for its proven record of expertise. This exceptional group  has been conducting unbiased research, conferences and online training for more than 40 years. It has brought together the most innovative professionals to exchange information and to gain valuable knowledge within the workforce mobility field.

What is so special about the ERC Conference in San Diego?

Not to get off topic, but the conference is being held in sunny San Diego! Who wouldn’t want to attend? More importantly, the Worldwide ERC has planned social events from education sessions, to keynote speakers, and peer networking. Topics up for discussion and observation fall under the titles, “The Innovation Situation-Discovering What Corporations Really Wan in Innovation”, “Household Goods Industry Challenges vs. Corporate Client Needs: Tough Times, Smart Solutions” and “ Temporary Assignments: Don’t Let Your Policy Hang Loose”, to name a few. Also, our lovely sales team members, Susan Becker and Katie Bahr will be attending with partner Jack Jensky to absorb the information and best practices shared to continue our efforts in innovations and in setting the industry standard. Take a minute to wave or shake their hands if you happen to see them there! They won’t bite.

Catch a Wave!

It is in Synergy’s best interest to have boots on the ground because the Worldwide ERC creates extensive resources for their members that anticipate and benefit emerging trends, aid in making astute business decisions, and even have the potential to reduce costs for companies to ultimately position an organization strategically in the marketplace. To be innovative is an integral part of the Synergy culture, which is why we exude our passions with the members of the Worldwide ERC. The success of our culture begins with our people whether it is the internal parts of our organization or our fellow mobility industry peers. So if you happen to see our Synergy peeps at the conference, say hello! In the meantime, take advantage of your location and catch a wave in the glorious sun of San Diego!

If you didn’t get a chance to meet our lovely sales team ladies, check in with our blog next week for an exclusive inside look of the conference where Susan and Katie will be sharing the highlights of each event they attended. Until then, hang loose!

International Corporate Housing : An Infographic

UK based magazine Re:locate recently published an article online about how serviced apartments – what Europe and most countries outside the US refer to as their fully furnished apartments – drive savings for corporate stays over hotels. Now this may not be something new to our clients in California or throughout the US but this may a new concept when it comes to using temporary housing internationally.

The article sources an infographic developed by SilverDoor, a UK based serviced apartment provider and trusted partner of Synergy, which outlines the rising costs of hotels all over the world and the benefits of using serviced apartments as a hotel alternative. We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

Have you ever thought about using a Synergy apartment for your international travelers instead of a hotel?

Synergy currently serves our clients in over 32 countries across the globe and is committed to broaden our service area to new markets in order to serve our clients. We take pride in our due diligence process when choosing providers to partner with worldwide. Synergy’s philosophy is to partner rather than source and to build and nurture those relationships. This enables us to provide the same high quality service and product any where in the world. Synergy often starts this due diligence process with trips to the places where our clients have needs. In fact, our Senior Global Account Executive Colin just took a trip to Zurich to do just that (keep a look out for a future post on this!). This trip will give the Synergy team hands-on experience in the area and enable us to provide our clients with the best accommodation as well as advice on transportation and more.

Let us know what you think about serviced apartments abroad and their impact to your budget. Don’t forget to check out all of our international accommodations by visiting our website!
